MedSpeak

MedSpeak is a specialized public speaking and communication training program designed for medical professionals.

MedSpeak

Program Overview

MedSpeak is a youth-led, evidence-based advocacy program addressing Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) by empowering medical and media students to transform accurate health knowledge into accessible, culturally sensitive, and impactful public narratives. The program bridges medical expertise and public communication by utilizing CinemaTech tools and mobile filmmaking to promote informed social dialogue and counter misinformation across diverse communities in Egypt.

MedSpeak engages medical and media students from approximately 10 governorates nationwide, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and strengthening youth leadership in health advocacy. Participants move through a structured advocacy journey that combines capacity building, creative production, and community engagement. They take part in specialized workshops addressing the medical, social, and legal dimensions of FGM, delivered by health and advocacy experts, and receive training on ethical and sensitive storytelling around harmful practices. The program also equips participants with CinemaTech and mobile filmmaking skills, enabling collaboration between medical and media students to produce short films and digital advocacy content. Throughout the process, participants receive ongoing mentorship and technical support, culminating in community-oriented dissemination and screenings of the advocacy materials they create.

Impact & Outcomes

Through MedSpeak, participants strengthened their ability to communicate complex health information in clear, ethical, and culturally appropriate ways, while demonstrating enhanced youth leadership in addressing harmful practices through creative, evidence-based advocacy. Their work contributed to increased awareness and understanding of FGM among target audiences, fostering more informed public dialogue. At a broader level, the program supports long-term social and behavioral change by grounding community conversations in scientific evidence and human rights principles, while building a growing pipeline of youth advocates who leverage creative industries and CinemaTech as powerful tools for social transformation.
