Creative Women of the South is a creative economy empowerment program for women artisans and creatives in Upper Egypt.

Program overview
Creative Women of the South is a targeted capacity-building program implemented during 2022–2023 to empower creative women in Aswan working across diverse artistic disciplines. The program was delivered in partnership with the Canadian Embassy and the Canadian Fund for Local Initiatives, reinforcing international support for women’s empowerment through culture and creativity. The program aimed to strengthen the technical, creative, and professional capacities of women artists in areas such as performing arts, content creation, scriptwriting, and filmmaking, while positioning creative expression as a tool for social awareness and community dialogue.
Program Scope & Reach
The program was implemented in Aswan Governorate, supporting creative women through one full program cycle and engaging participants from across the local creative community.
Program Structure & Support
Participants engaged in a structured learning journey that combined artistic development with entrepreneurial thinking. The program provided technical and specialized artistic training, along with mentorship and coaching sessions to support individual growth. Participants also developed skills in storytelling and content creation, received guidance on producing high-quality artistic outputs, and were introduced to entrepreneurial approaches that enabled them to explore sustainable, income-generating pathways for their creative work.
Outcomes & Impact
Key outputs of the program included the production of five short films addressing social issues relevant to the local community, which were showcased at the Aswan International Women Film Festival 2023, providing participants with valuable professional exposure and industry visibility. Through Creative Women of the South, participants enhanced their artistic and technical skills, gained confidence in using creative expression as a tool to address social issues, and developed entrepreneurial mindsets that enabled them to monetize their creative work. The program also opened pathways to professional exposure through participation in a major regional film festival.
