The Weavers of Tomorrow program, implemented by Gemini Africa in strategic partnership with Oriental Weavers, continues to build a new model for innovation within Egypt’s textile and carpet weaving industry—one that connects entrepreneurship, sustainability, and real industry integration. As part of the program’s ongoing Acceleration Phase, participating startups are receiving specialized support designed to help them scale sustainable and market-driven solutions within the textile ecosystem. This phase focuses on translating innovation into real commercial and operational opportunities, moving startups beyond development and into active integration within the Oriental Weavers ecosystem.

A key focus area within the acceleration phase is the transformation of leftover industrial materials from Oriental Weavers’ manufacturing processes into innovative, scalable products. Through this track, startups are actively contributing to circular economy practices by rethinking how industrial waste can be repurposed into commercially viable and environmentally responsible solutions. To date, participating startups have successfully utilized more than 5 tons of leftover materials, converting them into sustainable product lines that combine creativity, functionality, and resource optimization. This milestone reflects the program’s broader commitment to sustainability, responsible manufacturing, and innovation-driven production models. The startups participating in this phase include: 1- Cotton Town, 2- Meroe and 3- Tashuqat. Through tailored mentorship, technical support, and direct industry engagement, startups are working on: Designing innovative product lines using available manufacturing materials Expanding production capacity through access to Oriental Weavers’ resources Developing scalable business models rooted in sustainability and circular design Beyond product development, the program also creates direct pathways for commercialization and market integration. One of the most notable outcomes is the rollout of Shop-in-Shop retail units across Oriental Weavers’ flagship locations, allowing selected startups to showcase and sell their products directly to consumers. This approach reflects the program’s larger vision: moving beyond traditional incubation models toward a more integrated ecosystem where startups act as active drivers of innovation within established industries.

Over the course of the program, Weavers of Tomorrow has successfully established the foundation for what is described as the first WeavingTech innovation track worldwide, positioning the textile and carpet weaving sector at the intersection of manufacturing, entrepreneurship, sustainability, and technology. Through initiatives like this, Gemini Africa and Oriental Weavers continue to demonstrate how collaboration between industry and entrepreneurship can unlock new economic opportunities while promoting a more sustainable and circular future for manufacturing in Egypt.
