Weavers of Tomorrow: How Industry and Entrepreneurship Are Shaping the Future of Egypt’s Textile Sector
AUGUST 18, 2025 | 2 MIN READ
Launched as a response to the evolving needs of traditional industries, Weavers of Tomorrow set out to bridge the gap between startups and large-scale manufacturing—connecting entrepreneurial talent with real market access, industry expertise, and scalable opportunities. The program’s closing ceremony, hosted at the Oriental Weavers Haptech Store, reflected this vision by showcasing innovation within a space dedicated to technology, creativity, and future-forward retail. Over an 18-month journey, Weavers of Tomorrow attracted close to 500 applications, highlighting strong demand from startups seeking to innovate across the textile value chain. Through a structured pathway spanning pre-incubation, incubation, and acceleration, entrepreneurs received targeted support focused on business fundamentals, product development, market readiness, and industry integration. The program supported 30 startups during the pre-incubation phase, with seven ventures receiving CSR financial support and two advancing to incubation. The incubation phase expanded support to 20 startups, offering tailored mentorship, capacity building, industry exposure, and direct access to Oriental Weavers’ market ecosystem. A key outcome of this collaboration was the selection of five startups for Shop-in-Shop opportunities within Oriental Weavers’ mega stores—providing a rare chance for early-stage ventures to test, validate, and scale their products within a real commercial environment.
Reflecting on the partnership, Eng. Adly Thoma, Chairman and CEO of Gemini Africa, emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration in driving sustainable impact:
“Weavers of Tomorrow demonstrates how entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation can unlock new growth pathways for traditional industries. By integrating startups directly into industry value chains, we are creating lasting impact for both entrepreneurs and the textile sector in Egypt and beyond.”
The program culminated in a final pitching event and exhibition, where 18 startups presented their ventures before a distinguished judging panel including leaders from Oriental Weavers and Gemini Africa. Several startups demonstrated strong potential for long-term collaboration, signaling continued engagement beyond the program lifecycle. Through Weavers of Tomorrow, Gemini Africa and Oriental Weavers reaffirm a shared commitment to nurturing local talent, accelerating industrial innovation, and building future-ready ecosystems where entrepreneurship and industry grow together. The initiative stands as a model for how legacy industries can partner with ecosystem builders to drive inclusive growth, digital transformation, and sustainable competitiveness across Egypt’s economy.
